Empowered Eco-Education
In May 2013, a group of four Earth Club members, Marina Kelsh, Angela Feng, Carter Case, and myself were awarded the Ackerley Learning to Lead Together Scholarship for our project proposal: Empowered Eco-Education - Vamos a comer! After community conversations, many visits to South Park, the neighborhood we work with, and long discussions, we ultimately created 8 interactive workshops centered around nature science. Themed with the idea of getting kids to explore and value the nature in their own neighborhood of South Park, we worked with the South Park Community Center and Concord International School to provide enrichment activities for K-5 students. In Winter quarter we expanded our workshops and trained six volunteers who helped provide substantial support and even worked with community and UW partners to coordinate resources and knowledge for curriculum on the Duwamish River and Pollination.
